REFLECTIONS:

THE HERO AND HEROINE'S JOURNEY

You have received the call and have been asked to take a life-changing journey. It is not at all what you had planned to do, nor is it convenient, comfortable, or logical. Your mind and ego scream for you to run the other way, but your heart knows that there is no choice, you must embark on a path that is unfamiliar, potentially dangerous and one that challenges all that you thought to be true. You know you will face obstacles, challenges and tests, but that it will be worth it because there is a hidden treasure that will open your heart and transform your life. The treasure must be located, however long it takes, and brought back to the village to be shared. The world is hungry for what has heart and meaning, and it is each of our responsibilities to grow in the face of both joy and adversity, so that the treasure may be passed on to generations to come.

This is the path of the spiritual warrior. Throughout history, stories, fairy tales and legends cross-culturally have revealed the archetype of hero or heroine and the elements of the sacred journey. The late Joseph Campbell spent his career exploring common themes and motifs in stories from around the world in an effort to find what humanity holds deep in the collective unconscious.
